One of the most impressive medieval castles in Britain, built by King Edward I in the 13th century. Conwy Castle sits dramatically above the harbour and is surrounded by the famous town walls. Visitors can climb the towers and walk the battlements for spectacular views of the estuary and Snowdonia.

Perhaps the most famous castle in Wales, Caernarfon Castle is enormous and very distinctive with its polygonal towers. It played a major role in Welsh history and was where the Prince of Wales investiture ceremony took place in 1969.

Often described as the most technically perfect medieval castle ever built, Beaumaris Castle has a symmetrical design with walls within walls and a wide moat. Although never fully completed, it is considered the finest example of Edward I’s castle-building programme.

Harlech Castle sits high above the coast with dramatic views across Cardigan Bay and the mountains of Snowdonia. Its location alone makes it one of the most spectacular castles in Britain.

A smaller castle ruin perched on a rocky headland overlooking the sea. Though not as large as some of the others, Criccieth Castle has wonderful views and is perfect for a short visit combined with a seaside walk.
